Women's Tennis at Nationals 
 

BCC's women's tennis team traveled to Tucson, Arizona to take part in the NJCAA Division III women's tennis national tournament.  Abigail Greek and Cassandra Noukeo each won their singles consolation finals matches.  Greek beat an opponent from Northeast Community College of Mississippi 8-0 at number three singles.  Noukeo won at number five singles against an opponent from FIT of New York City.  She won 8-2.  Amanda Lindsley fell to her opponent from Brookdale CC (New Jersey) in the five singles match 6-8.  The doubles team of Lindsley/Greek dropped their match to Gloucester CC also from New Jersey 6-8.  Broome finished sixth in the 12-team field with the College of DuPage (IL) taking the title.

Golf 
 

5/4/08  BCC came in fourth at the Tompkins Cortland Invitational with Brad Smith leading the way for the Hornets with a 3-over-par 73. 

5/3/08  Broome took a fourth place finish at the Corning Invitational.  Nick Chernega and Tyler Jenson each scored an 81 to lead the Hornets. 

4/28/08  BCC finished second behind host  Monroe CC at the Monroe Invitational.  Tyler Jenson's 13 par, five bogey round of 77 led the Hornets.  Nick Chernega shot an 80.   

4/27/08  Broome took second place at the Cobleskill Invitational.  Nick Chernega finished tied for second overall with 4-over-par 74.  Tyler Jenson shot 76 and Brad Smith 80 for BCC.

4/18-20/08  BCC traveled to the Jamestown CC-Olean Invitational and took second place with at team total of 313, which was just one stroke behind first-place Jamestown CC.  Tyler Jenson was BCC's top golfer with a 76.  Broome placed first in the Coaches' Tournament with a team score of 306.  Kyle Sevey won Medalist's honors with a one-under-par 73 for the Hornet's.  Broome wrapped up the weekend playing to another first place finish with Tyler Jenson earning tournament medalist with a par 72. in the Jamestown CC Invitational.  Broome had a team total of 298 for that round.

4/12/08  Broome hosted their annual BCC Invitational at Endwell Greens and Nick Chernega led the Hornets to the title with a 2-over-par 74.  Chernega's score included two birdies per side, four bogeys and a double-bogey.  Kyle Sevey at 78 and Jason Gosney at 79 were each in the top ten for the tournament. 

4/11/08  The BCC golf team opened the 2008 season with a fourth place spot in the seven team tournament hosted by Mohawk Valley CC.  Brad Smith shot a team-best 83 for the Hornets.

Women's Lacrosse 
 

5/3/08  The inaugural season of BCC's women's lacrosse came to an end with their 3-14 loss to Herkimer County CC in  the semi-final round of the Region III Tournament.  BCC led 3-1 at halftime but Herkimer came roaring back in the second half with a 13-0 run.  Jenn Lake, Christi Bulman and Kailtyn Schultz each scored a goal for the Hornets.  Broome ended the season at 5-4. 

4/25/08 BCC traveled to Herkimer County CC and lost 3-19.  This game marked the end of the regular season for the new team.  Broome finished at 5-3 and will head into post-season play.

4/19/08  The Hornets won on the road at Finger Lakes CC 12-7 with Kaitlyn Schultz scoring fvie goals to lead the way.  Katie Husband netted four goals along with three assists for BCC.  Broome is 5-2.

4/16/08  BCC fell to visiting Herkimer County CC 7-17.  BCC trailed 3-6 at half-time and Herkimer scored 11 goals in the second half to seal the win.  Kaitlyn Schultz netted three goals and an assist to lead the Hornets.  Jessica Thompson had two goals and an assist.  BCC is 4-2.

4/13/08 Broome played their second home game in as many days and notched another victory this time over visiting Erie CC 16-1.  Kaitlyn Schultz again led the Hornets with six goals and Christi Bulman added four goals.  Both Schultz and Bulman had two assists.  Broome is 4-1.

4/12/08 BCC's new women's lacrosse team played on their home field for the first time, hosting Jefferson CC and won 19-12.  The Hornets were led by Kaitlyn Schutlz's ten goals.  Katie Husband netted five goals and was credited with three assists.  BCC is 3-1.

4/9/08  The Hornets suffered their first loss of the season at powerhouse Monroe CC 2-10.  Christi Bulman and Kailyn Schultz each scored for BCC.  Broome is 2-1. 

4/6/08  BCC's women's lacrosse extended their record to 2-0 with a 17-16 win at Mercyhurst NE.  Jenn Lake scored the game-winning goal with a little over eight seconds left to play.  BCC trailed 6-10 at halftime and pulled ahead 16-14 after halftime.  Mercyhurst rallied to tie the game with three minutes remaining.  Katilyn Schultz led the Hornets with seven goals and an assist.  Jenn Lake and Katie Husband each netted four goals and had an assist each. 

4/5/08  Captains Kaitlyn Schultz and Christi Bulman lead the first year BCC women's lacrosse team to a 10-3 win over host team Erie CC.  Schultz scored five goals and Bulman added two along with three assists.  Jenn Lake, Katie Husband and Lynn Hobart each added a goal for BCC.  Goalie Jackie Palmer and Captain Gabby Bolender anchored the defense that caused numerous turnovers and dominated the ground balls.

Men's Tennis 
 

5/3-4/08  Broome took a second place finish behind Onondaga CC in the Region III Men's Tennis Championship.  In the first round of play, Joe Shores and James Distin won their singles matches and the doubles teams of Nick Crandall/Patrick Bayer, Distin/Kevin Fedish, Shores/Joe Quanne were also victorious.  On the second day of play, Patrick Bayer won a Region title at second singles. 

4/29/08  BCC finished regular season play with a 7-2 win over visiting Mohawk Valley CC.  Patrick Bayer, Kevin Fedish, Joe Shores, James Distin and Matt Oakley each won their singles matches.  Nick Crandall/Bayer and Fedish/Distin took their doubles matches.  Broome will participate in the Region III Tournament this weekend at Adirondack CC.

4/26/08  Broome swept visiting Adirondack CC 9-0.  BCC is 5-2.

4/22/08  BCC's Patrick Bayer, Kevin Fedish, Joe Shores, James Distin and Nick Crandall all won at singles in their match at Delhi.  The doubles teams of Crandall/Bayer and Fedish/Distin also won.  BCC is 4-2. 

4/21/08  BCC lost to visiting Onondaga CC 0-9.  Broome is 3-2.

4/19/08  Broome defeated host SUNY Cobleskill 5-4.  Nick Crandall, James Distin, Matt Oakley and Joe Quanne each won their singles matches.  The doubles teams of  Joe Shores/Distin and Oakley/Quanne were also victorious.  BCC is 3-1.

4/15/08  The Hornets lost their first match of the season at host Onondaga CC 0-9.  Broome is 2-1.

4/12/08 Broome traveled to Herkimer County CC and posted a 5-4 win over their hosts.  Patrick Bayer, Kevin Fedish and James Distin won at singles for BCC.  Nick Crandall/Bayer and Fedish/Distin won at doubles.  The Hornets are 2-0.

4/7/08  BCC men's tennis opened their 2008 season with an 8-1 win over visiting Orange County CC.  Nick Crandall, Patrick Bayer, Kevin Fedish, Joe Shores all won their singles matches and Matt Oakley won by forfeit.  The doubles teams of Crandall/Bayer and Fedish/James Distiin won their matches and Shores/Oakley won by default.  BCC is 1-0.

Baseball 
 

5/3/08  Broome split a double-header with visiting Mohawk Valley to end their 2008 season.  Mohawk Valley took the first game 5-10 and Broome won the second game 10-5.  Geoff Eck hit 3-for-4 with two RBI in the first game.  David Nirchi struck out five and walked three in a complete-game win in game two.  Corey Micha, Aaron Whitney and Marc Diller each had RBI hits in the second inning to pace the Hornets.  Broome finished at 11-21 overall; 10-16 in Region play.  Their last scheduled game of the season with Adirondack CC was cancelled. 

5/1/08  BCC was swept by host Herkimer County CC 5-6 and 6-8.  Mike LaBarbera hit 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Marc Diller was 2-for-4 with a run scored in game two for the Hornets.  Broome is 10-23 overall; 9-17 in Region III.

4/30/08  Broome split a double-header with visiting Genesee CC, losing the opener 6-8 and winning the second game 7-6.  Marc Baker was 4-for-6 with two runs and four RBI over the two games.  Geoff Eck hit 3-for-3 with a run and three RBI in game two.  Broome is 10-21 overall; 9-15 in Region III.

4/27/08  A road trip to Hudson Valley saw Broome drop both games of the double-header, 3-9 and 11-12.  Mike LaBarbera hit 3-for-3 with four runs, Mike Potenza had three runs and Mike Chantry was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run.  BCC is 9-20 overall; 8-14 in Region play.

4/26/08  Visiting Erie CC swept Broome, 2-5, 3-8.  David Nirchi hit 3-for-4 with a run scored and Geoff Eck was 2-for-2 in the second game.  Broome is 9-18 overall; 8-12 in Region III.

4/25/08  BCC swept a double-header from Cobleskill 11-6, 10-0 on Hornet Field.  Marc Baker struck out four and allowed six hits over six innings in the first game as well as hitting 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.  Josh Morgan was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.  Tyler Faulkner pitched in game two, allowing six hits over six innings.  Geoff Eck hit a grand slam home run in the fifth inning of  the nightcap and David Nirchi was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a three-run double.  Broome is 9-16 overall; 8-10 in the Region.

4/22/08  BCC dropped a double-header at Fulton Montgomery CC 6-7, 3-9.  Mike Potenza went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the first game and hit 2-for-3 with a run in the second game.  David Nirchi was 2-for-3 in the first game and Geoff Eck was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI in game two.  Broome is 7-16 overall; 6-10 in Region III.

4/20/08  BCC split a double-header with visiting Jamestown CC, winning the second game 6-3 after dropping the first game 7-8 in extra innings.  The score was tied 2-2 in the third inning of game 2 when David Nirchi hit an RBI single to break the tie and put the Hornets ahead for good.  BCC is 7-14 overall; 6-8 in the Region.

4/19/08  Broome's trip to Schenectady County CC resulted in a first game win of 3-2 and a second game loss of 3-14.  In the first game, Kyle Harris scored the winning run on a passed ball in the seventh inning.  The second game was called after 4 1/2 innings.  BCC is 6-13 overall; 5-7 in Region III.

4/17/08  BCC traveled to Jefferson CC for a double-header and won the first game 5-3.  Don Amell and Tyler Faulkner each were 2-for-3 with a run scored.  The Hornets dropped the second game 10-14.  BCC is 4-12 overall; 4-6 in Region III.

4/15/08  Broome split a double-header with visiting Corning CC, dropping the first game 4-19 and winning the second game 5-4.  David Nirchi scored the winning run for the Hornets in the bottom of the seventh inning on an outfield error by Corning.  BCC is 4-11 overall; 3-5 in Region III.

4/13/08  The Hornets swept both games of their double-header with visiting Clinton CC 12-3, 16-2.  Marc Diller led the way for BCC with four hits scoring four runs and five RBI.  Marc Baker had a two RBI single in the second game.  Broome is 3-10 overall, 2-4 in Region III.

4/10/08  BCC dropped a double-header to visiting Tompkins Cortland CC 7-5, 5-3.  BCC's Corey Micha went 2-for-2 in the second game with a run scored.  Broome is 1-11 overall, 0-4 in Region III. 

4/7/08  Broome hosted Jefferson CC in their first home game of the season and fell to the visitors 7-10, 2-5. 

4/6/08 BCC traveled to Monroe CC and dropped the double-header 0-8, 2,14.  Mike Potenza went 1-for-3 for the Hornets with a two-run double.  BCC is 1-6. 

3/27/08  BCC lost to Manatee Community College 0-10.  Marc Diller hit a single in the fourth inning but got caught in a steal attempt and Marc Baker hit a single but was stranded at first.  BCC is 1-4.

3/26/08  Broome lost to University of Tampa B Team 1-10.  Marc Diller, Dave Nirchi and Joe Mirabito each had a single hit for the Hornets.  BCC is 1-3.

3/25/08  BCC played a single game against Hillsborough CC at Tampa and lost 1-19.  Broome managed just two hits in the game.  BCC is 1-2. 

3/24/08  BCC baseball is on spring break in Florida to get ready for the 2008 season.  The Hornets played a double-header against Webber International University's JV team, winning the first game 5-4 and dropping the second 3-13.  In game one, Marc Baker struck out five, walked one getting a fly out and strike out to end the game.  Baker hit 2-for-4. Marc Diller also was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.  The second game was called in the sixth inning due to the 10-run rule.  BCC is 1-1

Men's Lacrosse 
 

4/29/08  BCC's 2008 season came to an end when the Hornets fell to Monroe CC 2-16 in a sub-Regional playoff game.  Nate Wood and Brian Vandervort each scored for Broome.  Broome finished the season at 10-5. 

4/26/08  Broome beat visiting Mohawk Valley CC 22-6.  Sean Roberts and Matt Hand each scored five goals to pace the Hornets.  Nate Wood added four goals and four assists.  Shaun Duffy netted two goals and assist as well as dominating the faceoffs 18-for-26.  Broome finished the regular season at 10-4.   

4/24/08  BCC routed visiting Tompkins Cortland CC 24-11.  Sean Roberts scored eight goals with two assists to lead the Hornets.  Nate Wood netted four goals with four assists, Brian Vandervort had three goals with five assists and Matt Hand added three goals and two assists.  BCC is 9-4.

4/22/08  Broome fell to host team Herkimer County CC 7-18.  Matt Hand scored three goals to lead the Hornets and Brian Vandervort netted two goals.  Goalie Chris Caletka had 25 saves.  BCC is 8-4. 

4/16/08  BCC's road trip to Finger Lakes CC resulted in an 11-9 win over their hosts and Matt Hand became the Hornets all-time leading scorer with 130 points.  Hand broke the record set in 2006 by Wes Alexander (126).  Hand scored the first four goals of the game on his way to a total of six.  Goalie Chris Caletka made twenty saves.  Broome is 8-3. 

4/15/08  Broome improved their record to 7-3 with a 17-7 win over visiting Genesee CC.  Matt Hand led the Hornets with six goals and assist.  Sean Roberts netted four goals with four assists and Nate Wood had three goals along with three assists. 

4/12/08 BCC had no trouble defeating visiting Cayuga CC 18-5.  Matt Hand scored three straight goals to break a 3-3 tie that put the Hornets ahead for good.  Hand finished with four goals and Nate Wood scored three along with having three assists.  Sean Roberts and Corey Driscoll each netted two goals with two assists.  Broome is 6-3.

4/10/08  BCC traveled to Alfred State College and fell to their hosts 7-14.  Matt Hand scored three goals for the Hornets and Nate Wood netted two.  Although BCC outshot Alfred 48-25, they were unable to score in the second or third periods.  Broome is 5-3.

4/7/08  BCC lost 6-12 to visiting Monroe CC.  Monroe led 7-2 at halftime and BCC cut the lead to 8-5 in the fourth quarter thanks to Matt Hand's unassisted goal.  Monroe then scored three straight goals to put  the game out of reach.  Matt Hand and Nate Wood each scored two goals a piece to lead the Hornets. Goalie Chris Caletka made 19 saves. BCC is 5-2. 

4/5/06  BCC was tied 9-9 with host team SUNY Cobleskill when  Patrick Joyce intercepted a pass at midfield and started a fast break that ended with Nate Wood scoring the winning goal with 4:31 left to play.  Broome trailed 6-1 with 6:30 left in the second quarter but scored five unanswered goals to tie the game.  Matt Hand, Sean Roberts and Brian Vandervort each scored three goals in the 10-9 win.  BCC is 5-1.

4/3/08  BCC defeated visiting Hudson Valley CC 7-5.  Matt Hand led the Hornets with three goals and scored his 100th career goal.  Sean Roberts had two goals and an assist.  Goalie Chris Caletka made 15 saves.  Broome is 4-1.

4/1/08  Broome lost their first game of the season to power house Onondaga CC 5-20.  Matt Hand and Nate Wood each scored two goals for the Hornets with Hand credited with two assists.  Broome is 3-1.

3/29/08  The Hornet's were tied at 6-6 with host team Jefferson CC with 12:22 left to play in the fourth quarter when Matt Hand scored on a crossing pass from Sean Meaney to put BCC ahead for good.  Broome had held a 6-2 lead at half-time, but Jefferson rallied in the third period with four goals resulting in the tie.  Matt Hand led the Hornets with three goals.  Goalie Chris Caletka made 12 saves.  Broome is 3-0.

3/25/08  BCC's game with SUNY Delhi was supposed to be the Hornets home-opener but field conditions caused the game to be played at Hartwick College's turf field.  However, that didn't bother the Hornets as they defeated SUNY Delhi 12-5.  Matt Hand again led Broome with five goals and two assists.  Nate Wood scored three goals with two assists.  BCC is 2-0.

3/22/08  BCC men's lacrosse opened their 2008 season with a 14-4 rout of host team Mercyhurst NE.  The score was tied 2-2 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, when Broome scored four consecutive goals to take the lead.  The Hornets went on a 5-0 run in the third period to seal the win.  Matt Hand led BCC with six goals and two assists.  Broome is 1-0.
