Getting Started
ITS welcome you to Broome Community College (BCC). This site is designed to provide an understanding of the computing resources that are available to you. A secure campus network supports academic and administrative functions for faculty, staff and student use. This system provides access to the Internet, public (cronos) and private (newomega) folders (Z: drive), campus information systems (BASIS/SIS) and more. Supervisors with employees requiring use of the secure campus network must contact ITS in B-123 or call ext. 5011 to establish a campus computer account username. A username is composed of your last name, underscore (_) and the first initial of your first name. For example, if your name is Zack Smith your username would be Smith_Z and your BCC Email address would be Smith_Z@sunybroome.edu.
ITS provides an Email account to every faculty and staff member. Email can be accessed through Outlook on your desktop or remotely via a web browser by navigating to http://webmail.sunybroome.edu/ and logging in using your campus computer account username and password. Once connected, you will be presented with a web-based interface to your BCC Email account.
Campus computers are equipped with a standard suite of software including Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Internet Explorer, and Acrobat Reader. Instructions in this guide are for this platform.
Training for these and many other common software programs is available through DeskCards. DeskCards are 2-page information sheets that will help beginners get started and teach experts a thing or two. They include Screen Shots to give visual aids for novice users, DeskCardHints which offer tips on how to optimize and customize your experience, and TheHelpDesk area that contains advanced tips and keyboard shortcuts to make working easier. DeskCards can be accessed by logging in to BCCToday and selecting the DeskCards link on the left hand navigation panel.
