Getting Started
IT Services welcome you to Broome Community College (BCC). This site is designed to help you understand the computing resources available to you. It will also provide you with instructions to get started and other helpful information. Every BCC student is assigned a unique campus computer account username and password, which allows access to the campus network and lab computers. In addition, your campus computer account username and password will provide access to a student WEB portal called BCCToday.
If you do not know or have forgotten your username, you may contact your instructor or view it at http://www.sunybroome.edu/email/studentmail_a.html. Your username is the portion before the (at) (i.e. publicj999), and the entire address is your BCC email address (i.e. publicj999(at)acad.sunybroome.edu). Be sure to replace the (at) with the @ symbol.
Campus computers are equipped with a standard suite of software including Windows XP Professional SP2, Microsoft office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Internet Explorer, and Acrobat Reader. Instructions in this guide are for these formats.
Training for these and many other common software programs is available through DeskCards. DeskCards are 2-page information sheets that will help beginners get started and teach experts a thing or two. They include Screen Shots to give visual aids for novice users, DeskCardHints which offer tips on how to optimize and customize your experience, and The HelpDesk area that contains advanced tips and keyboard shortcuts to make working easier. DeskCards can be accessed by logging in to BCCToday and clicking the DeskCards link on the left hand navigation panel.
